Notiz: Vor wenigen Tagen verstarb Cedric A. Collingwood (u.a. der eigentliche Entdecker der "Mallorca-Ameise" [Lasius balearicus]) im Alter von 97 Jahren.

Cedric A. Collingwood R.I.P.

Im April 1990 begegnete ich ihm auf einem Kongress in Heraklion, Kreta. (5e Congrès International sur la Zoogéographie et l’Écologie de la Grèce et des régions avoisinantes - Iraklion, Avril 1990).
Er war eine sehr freundliche Persönlichkeit; wir hatten einige interessante Diskussionen. Ich werde ihn in guter Erinnerung behalten!

That is very sad news. He did very good work on ants from many places but for me his best work was about Europe. One of my first determination keys I used was his key for Britain (together with B. Bolton) http://www.royensoc.co.uk/sites/default ... art03c.pdf . Also very important were his review of European ants with determination keys (with D. Agosti) http://antcat.org/documents/21/6856.pdf and http://antcat.org/documents/22/6857.pdf . We will surely miss his contributions to myrmecology!

Hier möchte ich noch anfügen, dass Cedric Collingwood der erste war, der die berühmte parasitische "Endameise" Teleutomyrmex schneideri außerhalb der Schweiz gefunden hat, nämlich bei Briançon in den Franz. Alpen. Wir konnten die Art dann viel später ebendort wieder auffinden.
